The Kyrgyz Republic practices a governmental system of governing. The name of the president is Almazbek Atambaev. The country became independent on August 31, 1991 splitting from the USSR. It took place in North- Eastern part of Central Asia. It borders on the states like Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The area comprises 196 sq km and 93 % of it is above 1500 meters. The highest point reaches 7439 m and known as Peak Pobeda while the lowest is 401 m in Fergana valley. The capital is the city of Bishkek with the population of more than 5 million people. The most popular cities in Kyrgyzstan are Bishkek (capital), Cholpon Ata, Karakol, Osh, Naryn, Jalal Abad and Talas. The languages are Kyrgyz and Russian languages. The main ethnic groups are Kyrgyz (58.7%), Russian (16.2%), Uzbek (14.3%), Ukrainian (1.8%), Tatars (1.2%), other nationalities (7.2%): German, Kazakh, Korean, Uigur, Tajik, Dungan.
